Short description

The 7th Asia-Pacific Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating Conference (APLED 2025) was jointly hosted by the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) and the Korea Association for Quaternary Research, South Korea.

The main scientific sessions were held on 22–24 September 2025, featuring 31 oral and 33 poster presentations across eight themes:

  • Electron Spin Resonance (ESR): characteristics, new methods, and materials
  • Dosimetry and new instrumentation
  • Luminescence: characteristics, new methods, and materials
  • Advances in dose-rate determination
  • Applications in geology
  • Applications in geomorphology
  • Applications in archaeology
  • Applications in radiation protection

Keynote speakers

  • Ashok Kumar Singhvi – Physical Research Laboratory (India)
  • Eren Şahiner – Ankara University (Türkiye)
  • Sumiko Tsukamoto – Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics (Germany)
  • Bo Li – University of Wollongong (Australia)
  • Myungho Kook – Technical University of Denmark (Denmark)
  • Hyoung-Taek Kim – Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (Korea)
  • Jie Chen – Institute of Geology, China Earthquake Administration (China)

Social events and field excursion

The conference dinner took place on 23 September at the Jeju Hotel, followed by an optional two-day field excursion (25–26 September) across Jeju Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Participation

A total of 96 researchers attended, representing South Korea, China, Japan, India, Australia, Türkiye, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, France, and Romania.

Next (8th) APLED

The next APLED is scheduled to be hosted by China. Prof. Xiaomei Nian (East China Normal University) will organize the 8th APLED in Shanghai, China, in collaboration with other universities or institutes as appropriate.

  • Tentative dates: September–October (exact dates TBA)
  • Field excursion: To be decided

Procedure for selecting the next host venue

It was proposed that future host venues be determined through a rotational system between China and other countries.
